Cycling and swimming

The Donna Sunderdick Columbia Pedal & Paddle, in its eighth year benefiting the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, is coming to Columbia July 14. Participants will embark on a 45-mile supported trip through all 10 Columbia villages and all 23 Columbia Association pools. Riders must swim one lap at each pool. Riders must begin between 7:15 and 7:30 a.m. at the Owen Brown Neighborhood Center, which is also where the ride ends. Cost: $55. Participants receive an event t-shirt. The Howard High School Lions Basketball Camp for boys and girls entering sixth through ninth grade, sponsored by the Howard Lions Pride Booster Club and directed by Howard High boys varsity basketball coach Seth Willingham, will be held Aug. 5-9 from 8:30 a.m.-noon at Long Reach High (due to construction at Howard). Train with renowned US National Team soccer player Sergio Flores at a special, one-day soccer camp on July 13, 9-11 a.m., at Worthington Elementary School in Ellicott City. Registrants will receive training and refreshments with the morning culminating into a kids vs. parents game. All proceeds from this camp benefit the Casey Cares Foundation. Registration: $30. The D1 All-Star Girl's Lacrosse Camp, for ages 7-13, will be held July 8-12 at Western Regional Park from 9 a.m.-noon. The camp features stick skills, competition, drills, games and contests in a fun-filled, action-packed environment run by Kristy Black, college assistant coach, Terps national champion and Glenelg state champion. Pro Baseball Training offers a one-week summer camp, July 15-19, at Freedom Firehall field in Sykesville. There will also be a High School Hitting Clinic during the same week at Freedom Park. Campers will be split up by age group and have their own instructor(s). Camp options include a half day, full day, and full week options with early drop off and late pick-up options as well. Team discounts are available for groups of four and eight. Register by July 1 to be eligible. Half-Day Camp: 9 a.m.-noon, $250/week or $75/day, lunch not included.
