The Maryland Half Marathon and Dozer's Dash, an 8k race within a race, will be held Sun., May 6, starting at 8 a.m. in Maple Lawn. The race benefits the University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center. Go to

The Atholton Elementary School PTA is holding its second annual Panthers Pounding the Pavement 5k and 1-mile Family Fun Run/Walk June 3 at 9 a.m. at Atholton Park in Columbia. The 5k will tour the rolling hills of the Allview community while the Fun Run/Walk will be on a less-challenging course designed to be kid-friendly. The post-race party to include music, food, beverages and a raffle with great prizes. The Central Maryland Soccer Association is recruiting men and women age 18 and older who would like to become certified soccer officials. Training and certification begins in mid-June and will be completed prior to the fall season. Current up-to-date certification will be accepted. High school football officials and timers are needed in the Washington metropolitan area. Anyone who has reached their 18th birthday prior to Sept. 1, 2012 and has a desire to officiate high school football is eligible. No experience is required. Knowledge of the rules and officiating will be provided during training sessions which start in July.

The Maryland Juniors Volleyball Club is hosting a series of juniors volleyball summer programs. The camps and clinics were designed to meet the needs of all different levels of juniors volleyball players. Register by May 28 for the Northwest Area High School Boys Summer Lacrosse league. The league is open to boys entering grades 9-12 this fall. High school graduates are not eligible for participation. All players are required to register with US Lacrosse. The league starts June 4 and ends July 25 with games on Monday and Wednesday evenings in the Owings Mills area of Baltimore County. Registration is being accepted for Howard Boys Lacrosse Camp scheduled for July 16-19 (9 a.m.-noon) at Howard High School in Ellicott City. Sign-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. behind the school. The camp is open to student-athletes entering grades 6-9 this fall. All participants will need a helmet, gloves, elbow pads, shoulder pads, mouth piece, cleats, a stick and a reversible jersey. All Pro All Stars Cheerleading and Dance will be holding tryouts for their all star cheerleading and hip hop dance teams 2-6 p.m., May 13 and 6-9 p.m., May 16.
