Rec basketball team enjoying turnaround season

It took a few weeks, but the Hopkins Pirates (9-10 rec-league basketball) have found their stride.

The team, which plays in the Meadowbrook Basketball League, has put together a four-game winning streak after starting the season with three consecutive losses by more than 20 points. Thanks to hard work, though, the Pirates are now getting set for a semifinal match-up Wednesday night against the Bethany Falcons.

Under the guidance of coaches Pat Rice and Tracy Peterkin, this group of many first-year players has improved at an incredibly fast rate.

“Without their determination, confidence and willingness to learn, they would not have made it to (this point in) the playoffs,” Rice said. “I am very proud of them.”

There are 10 players on the squad, including nine boys and one girl. All have contributed to the team’s success at various points this winter.

Team members include Dinari Spears, Christopher Eckford, Rasheed Abdullah, Calvin Kim, Khaleel Lee, John Lee, Eagan Murphy, Erica Riggin, Joshua Lee and Marvin Mayo.
