Golf: Lee wins MAPGA Junior PGA Championship

Rachel Lee, of Woodstock, won the girls division of the Middle Atlantic Section, PGA Championship, Friday at the Montgomery Country Club in Gaithersburg.

With a final-round 74, Lee, 16, finished with a two-day total of 146 and a 5-stroke victory over Bryana Nguyen, of Columbia.

Bennett Wisner, of Hampstead, won the boys division with a final-round 65 for a two-day total of 137 and a 2-stroke victory over Tyler Silberberg, of Columbia.

By winning, Lee and Wisner qualified for the 37th Junior PGA Championship July 31-Aug. 3 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Junior PGA Championship, presented by Under Armour and Heritage Food Service Group, is open to one boy and one girl champion from each of the 41 PGA Section, winners of the eight PGA Junior Series events and a few other national tournaments conducted throughout the year plus special invitees who have not yet reached their 19th birthday and who have not started college.

The Junior PGA Championship has been a stepping-stone for many of today's PGA and LPGA Tour professionals as well as current collegiate stars.
