Riso's hat trick guides River Hill into boys soccer regional final

Zach Riso scored three times and River Hill pitched its second straight shutout to open this year’s playoffs, as the Hawks earned a 4-0 road victory over Stephen Decatur Thursday afternoon.

River Hill’s victory, combined with J.M. Bennett’s win in penalty kicks against Hammond on Thursday, sets up a Class 3A East region semifinal match-up on Friday. Third-seeded J.M. Bennett will host that game.

The four goals against Stephen Decatur tied the second highest offensive output of the season for River Hill (9-3-3), which had gotten through the first round thanks to a 1-0 victory over Wilde Lake.

Riso was the hero in that game against the Wildecats, scoring the golden goal in overtime, and he played the star role once again Thursday. Jake Turney chipped in with a goal and an assist of his own against Decatur.

River Hill goalie Thomas Potts made five saves to preserve the shutout.
