Columbia man killed after allegedly attacking Pennsylvania state trooper

A Columbia man was shot and killed Tuesday evening in Pennsylvania after he allegedly attacked a state trooper during a traffic stop.

Daryl Jerome Berry, 45, was shot three times, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Police were called at about 8:55 p.m. for a report of a motor vehicle crash on the eastbound Pennsylvania Turnpike in Brush Creek Township, which is near the intersection with Interstate 70. They found two people arguing, and as a trooper approached, a man and two Rottweiler dogs came toward him aggressively, police said.

The man "struck the trooper several times with a metal flashlight," police said in a statement. "The confrontation escalated and a struggle ensued," ultimately ending after the trooper fired his gun.

The incident remains under investigation.
