Man arrested in Oakland Mills shooting, another suspect sought

Howard County police have arrested one person and are seeking another in connection with a shooting Jan. 11 in Oakland Mills.

Eric Brandon Miller, 25, of the 1300 block of Whitman Drive in Glen Burnie, has been charged with one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault, according to department spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.

He is accused of being involved in a shooting that wounded Marcus Lee, a 20-year-old Columbia man.

Police were called at about 8:30 p.m. to Sam's Mart in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road. Lee told officers he was shot on Stevens Forest Road near Whiteacre Road; then ran to the nearby convenience store for help, Llewellyn said.

Detectives spoke to people with information about the shooting and learned that it had occurred in a vehicle during a drug deal, she said.

"Police believe the victim, Lee, was selling a large quantity of marijuana to Miller and an accomplice at the time of the incident," Llewellyn said. "Detectives believe that during the meeting, the accomplice fired one shot at Lee."

Lee then ran from the vehicle to the convenience store, while Miller and the accomplice drove away, she said. Lee was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, treated and released on Jan. 15, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Miller is being held at the Howard County Detention Center in Jessup on $75,000 bail, according to online court records. He has a court hearing scheduled for Feb. 7.

Police are still seeking the identity of the accomplice. Anyone with information is asked to call 410-313-7687.
