Howard County Police arrested five people at a DUI sobriety checkpoint on northbound Route 1 and Davis Avenue, in North Laurel, this weekend, according to a news release.
Three drivers were charged with driving while under the influence, one was arrested for driving without a license and one was arrested for driving on a suspended license, the news release stated.
Police said 537 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which began late Saturday, March 2, and went into the early hours of March 3. The checkpoint was staffed by Howard County Police officers and officers from the Maryland State Police.
Members of the Howard County Chapter of Mothers against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) also provided assistance during the checkpoint, police said.
Drivers that passed through the checkpoint were given an informational handout containing DUI facts and statistics, according to police.
