Two taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center following house fire

Two people were taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center after a house fire in Sykesville on Monday afternoon.

Sykesville-Freedom District Volunteer Fire Company, along with units from Baltimore and Howard counties, responded to a house fire in the 5500 block of Strawbridge Terrace around 2:05 p.m., said Sykesville-Freedom Fire Company spokesman Bill Rehkopf.

Upon arrival, units found a working fire that had gone from the kitchen into the house, Rehkopf said.

One woman was transported by air to Bayview, and a man was taken to Bayview by one of Winfield's ambulances, he said.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was on the scene investigating the fire, Rehkopf said.

He said the Sykesville fire chief was happy with the unit's response, adding that they "knocked down" the fire quickly.
