Your guide to Carroll's 2017 fire carnivals

Take your pills for motion sickness and grease up that Skee-Ball elbow, because the Carroll County volunteer fire company carnivals are back for another summer of music, rides, fair food and more. Gamber kicks off the season this Saturday, May 27 with Union Bridge following close after on Monday. Following the close of both, a different Carroll community will host a carnival each week all the way through July, with a two-week gap before Hampstead closes it off in August.

Fireworks are scheduled for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29 at 9 p.m. with a rain date of Tuesday, May 30. Raffles include the Major Raffle with prize money totalling $10,000; the Fire Company Raffle for a 2012 EZ-GO golf cart; Auxiliary Raffle for a three-piece patio set, crab feast and Ravens and Orioles memorabilia. Tickets for each are $2 a piece or three for $5.

The money wheel, gun jar and big six wheel will not be open on Sunday, May 28.

The celebration kicks off with a Memorial Day service at the VFW Post 8806 at 6 p.m. The silent auction will be open all week. Raffles include the Firemen's Cash Drawings, with $4,000 in cash prizes; the Ladies Auxiliary with prizes including two walnut finished wooden rockers, and a Junior Firemen raffle with $200 in gift cards.
