A construction project scheduled to begin in September involving two Valley Road bridges in Catonsville will force motorists to detour until December.
The $300,000 project to repair to the parapet and deck of the two 12-foot-long bridges will close the bridges for three months, according to David Fidler, a spokesman for Baltimore County Department of Public Works.
Additionally, the project to fix the bridges that span the west branch of Herbert Run will also address the erosion situation nearby, Fidler said.
Less than a half mile separates the bridge near the entrance to Spring Grove State Hospital Center and the bridge at the intersection of Hilltop Avenue and Valley Road.
Construction crews will repair one bridge at a time, so as not to trap people living in the residences between the projects, Fidler said.
The detour for the road that many use to go from Wilkens Avenue to South Rolling Road is "fairly easy," Fidler said.
Drivers will go around the construction by driving to South Rolling by directly on Wilkens Avenue, Fidler said.
