Mount de Sales blanks Bryn Mawr in girls soccer for first win

The results for Mount de Sales have been ugly: Fourteen losses and four ties. But the Sailors had a reason to celebrate Friday.

They posted a 1-0 victory over visiting Bryn Mawr in an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference game on senior day thanks to a goal from junior midfielder Jessica Jurney.

The win ended more than six weeks of frustration.

"They have showed a lot of heart throughout the season," Mount de Sales coach James Dubysoki said. "And have done very, very well without getting the results. The win was very thrilling. It's senior day. The girls have a lot of love for each other and they wanted the result for the seniors today."

The Sailors (1-8-1 league) scored in the 53rd minute.

Bryn Mawr junior goalie Zoe Derrickson leaped and saved Stephanie Arnold's shot on a free kick from about 50 yards out, but Jurney was right in front to knock the ball into the right corner.

The Mawrtians (5-9 overall, 2-8 conference) best chance for the equalizer came in the 71st minute.

Mount de Sales goalie Sydney Hunter, however, saved Kate Snouffer's attempt from about 25 yards out.

"It's exciting for them (the Sailors) to be out here on senior day," said Bryn Mawr coach Tina Steck, whose team was outshot, 15-7. "Both teams brought a lot of energy out there and I thought it was a fairly evenly matched game. We finish a couple of our opportunities and it's a different result. That's soccer."
