Perry Hall field hockey player who collapsed had cardiac arrest, according to Baltimore County official

Perry Hall High junior varsity player Breanna Sudano, who collapsed on the field after the Gators' 2-1 victory Tuesday evening at Catonsville High, suffered cardiac arrest, said Elise Armacost, the chief of public safety information for Baltimore County, on Friday.

Armacost said she could not be more specific.

Four or five adults attending the game adminstered CPR before paramedics arrived. Sudano was transported to St. Agnes Hospital, before being transferred to the pediatric unit at University of Maryland Shock Trauma, according to Perry Hall athletic director Bob Hruz.

Hruz, who did not attend the game, stayed at the hospital until 10 Tuesday night.

In a phone conversation Wednesday morning, Hruz said Sudano "was resting comfortably while they do more tests to find out what happened."

Perry Hall and Catonsville were playing the first field hockey game of the season on the turf at Comet Park on Tuesday.

The varsity game, which was scheduled for 5 p.m., was postponed.
