Eastern Tech ends Perry Hall's run of girls soccer county titles

Eastern Tech sophomore midfielder Ashley Hallameyer will never forget her goal against Perry Hall Tuesday.

Hallameyer’s kick to the upper right corner from 18 yards out in the 20th minute halted the Gators’ bid to win their fourth straight Baltimore County championship as Eastern Tech (12-0-2) posted a 1-0 victory at Franklin High.

It was Eastern Tech's first county championship since 2008 and sixth overall for coach Kim Williams at the school.

“It was really nice to get the title back,” she said. "We hadn’t been here in three years. Prior to that, we held it for a long time.  I can’t say at the beginning of the season we had this as a goal. Then the season starting rolling along and we are playing well and handling our division. Before we realized it, we had earned this spot.”

Perry Hall pushed hard for the equalizer in the final minutes and tested the defense of Abby Freas, Laura Thacker, Sarah Romecki and Meghan Miller and goalie Ryan Jones.

The Gators' Sabrina Testerman crossed the ball to Melanie Garrison near the goal in the 72nd minute, but Jones rushed out of the goal to snatch it before Garrison could gain control.

In the 78th minute, Jones saved a point-blank shot that was redirected by Kara Taylor.

Perry Hall (9-3-2) outplayed Eastern Tech in the first half, but only had excellent scoring chances to show for it.

Keri Klimko was in perfect position to stop Melanie Garrison’s shot from near the left post in the fifth minute.

In the 13th minute, Taylor hit the crossbar.

"Our game plan was to spend the first 15 minutes attacking, attacking, attacking," Perry Hall coach Rick Testerman said. "And we did. We just couldn't find the net."

Hallameyer did find the back of the goal for her second goal of the season. Klimko was credited with the assist.

"She started the play right around midfield and got the ball back," Williams said of Hallameyer. "She just nailed it from the outside. It was a beautiful goal."
