Man arrested for swinging machete in Lansdowne parking lot

A 38-year-old New Carrollton man was arrested for wielding a machete in a parking lot outside a Lansdowne bar in the early morning hours of Aug. 5, according to Baltimore County police.

Baltimore County police spokeswoman Cpl. Cathy Batton said an officer saw Jose Adalid Rodriguez in the parking lot of 15 de Septiembre swinging a two-foot machete at 2 a.m. Sunday.

The incident at the bar at 3911 Hollins Ferry Road, the former site of Renee's Lounge and Restaurant, came after two security personnel were breaking up a fight, Batton said.

As the fight broke up, Rodriguez was punched in the face, Batton said.

Rodriguez then pushed the guards out of his way and retrieved his machete, Batton said.

An officer performing a routine patrol of the area, which include the Lansdowne Shopping Center on Hollins Ferry Road, saw people leaving the bar and running around the parking lot as Rodriguez swung the machete, Batton said.

Police ordered Rodriguez to drop his machete and arrested him shortly after, Batton said.

Rodriguez faces three counts of first-degree assault and three counts of second-degree assault.
