Registration the first step to help fight hunger in Arbutus area

Local church recruiters are at work registering folks for next month's annual CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk 2011 to help refill the empty food shelves at Southwest Emergency Services' pantry.

This year's event is Sunday, Oct. 2, at Lansdowne United Methodist Church, 114 Laverne Ave.

A small fee will be charged for lunch, served from noon-1:30 p.m.

The walk, either a stroller-friendly half-mile jaunt or a three-mile trek around Hillcrest Park, starts at 2 p.m.

Free snowballs for all participants at the end.

Members of Our Savior Lutheran Church, 141 Laverne Ave., are planning a 120th anniversary celebration for Nov. 6 and need help.

Halethorpe-Relay United Methodist Church, 4513 Ridge Ave., welcomes dance enthusiasts to two-step on over Thursdays at 6:15 p.m. for country western dance lessons, taught by Dottie Cadden.

Experience preferred but novices welcome, too. Fee varies by number of participants.

Enjoy at meal at Chick-fil-A at Lansdowne Station Wednesday, Sept. 28, and help the SWES ministry feed neighbors in need. Dine from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and mention that you're there to support SWES and the store promises to donate a percentage of the sales profit to the local nonprofit.
