Baltimore Highlands: English Consul volunteers name new officers

On Jan. 19, new officers for 2013 will be installed at the English Consul Volunteer Fire Department, 2827 Michigan Ave. They are Donald Condon, president; Otts Hoffman, vice president; Gerald Mathison, treasurer; Helene Nalley, recording secretary; Dave McCarren, financial secretary; and Ron Ware, three-year trustee.

Fire line officers are Robert Bury Sr., chief; Robert Bury Jr., assistant chief; Nick Hannigan, deputy chief; Matthew Runyon, operations captain; Krista McDevitt, captain of emergency medical services; Andy James, John Campbell and Diane Linton, lieutenants; Richard Wentworth and Ron Ware, deputy sheriffs; and Kenny Blade and Richard Wentworth Sr., engineers.

American Legion Post 195, 2603 Virginia Ave., has planned two dinners for the first month of the new year. The annual shrimp feast is set for Sunday, Jan. 20, 1-6 p.m. Cost is $40 per ticket. Corn, salad, dessert and limited open bar are included.

Sons of the American Legion have scheduled a commander's dinner dance Saturday, Jan. 26, 7-8 p.m., with music until midnight. For $15, you can enjoy pork tenderloin, whipped potatoes, sauerkraut, vegetable medley, dessert and coffee.

The Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center, 424 Third Ave., will honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a party from noon until 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28. The menu includes pulled pork ribs, green beans, coleslaw, fresh fruit cup, cake and milk.

The center also holds a class in Tai chi Mondays, 12:30-1:30 p.m., and Thursdays, 11 a.m. to noon, beginning Jan. 28. The session lasts through April 15. Fee is $12. Tai chi promotes good balance and strength while reducing the risk of falling.
