Baltimore Highlands: Ausball new game in town at Riverview Elementary

The Baltimore Highlands Recreation and Parks department is offering youth ausball, Australian football that combines soccer, basketball and volleyball into one game. Practices and games will be held at Riverview Elementary School through Nov. 6. Games are tag, not tackle; they are scheduled on Tuesdays, 3:45-5 p.m. Ages 6-18 are eligible at a $20 cost. Pick up a registration form at the Riverview recreation office, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

• Haunted Hollows, annually sponsored by Baltimore Highlands Recreation and Parks, will again be set up in Southwest Area Park on Thursday, Oct. 18, 7-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20, 7 p.m. to midnight, at a cost of $4 for children 3-12 and $6 for adults.

• Christ United Methodist Men, 2833 Florida Ave., will prepare their yearly spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, costing $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12. This is an all-you-can-eat meal, including salad, dessert and beverage. Bill Weller and Lauren Bumbaugh are the chief organizers.

• The church is planning a 50th anniversary celebration for Sunday, Oct. 28. A 5 p.m. dinner will take place at English Consul Volunteer Fire Department, 2827 Michigan Ave., followed by a church service.

Members of the Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center, 424 Third Ave., will travel by bus to Delaware Park Casino on Friday, Oct. 26, leaving the Wal-Mart parking lot on Washington Boulevard at 9 a.m. and returning by 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, each customer will receive $30 in slots money.

• The center will host an Oktoberfest party Friday, Oct. 27, with dinner served at 4:30 p.m. Spaghetti with meat sauce, Swedish meatballs, garlic bread, salad, yellow and chocolate cakes, wine, beer and soft drinks are on the menu for a $7 price. From 5:30-7 p.m., Jerry Culpepper will entertain with a deejay and karaoke.

Lansdowne United Methodist Church, 114 Lavern Ave., advertises the opening of Joshua's Closet, stocking gently used clothing, household goods, books and more at affordable prices for the whole family. Shop on Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to noon; second and fourth Wednesdays , 4-6 p.m.; first and third Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
