Baltimore Highlands: Tuesday parade on Annapolis Road marks start of annual carnival

The English Consul Volunteer Fire Department's annual carnival will commence with a parade at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, marching up Annapolis Road to Baltimore Highlands Elementary School, 4200 Annapolis Road.

The area's elected officials are expected to take part, along with fire trucks representing companies from across the county. New attractions will be featured, plus the traditional hot dogs, hamburgers, cotton candy and plenty of other food and drinks.

August Raveio American Legion Post 195 at 2603 Virginia Ave. elected the following new slate of officers for the coming year:

Joseph Phillips, commander;

Noah Crum, judge advocate;

Joseph Miller, adjutant;

• Charles Byrd, service officer;

William Byrd, historian;

Gus Balaz, executive committee.

Mollie Sauers is now the new director of the Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center, at 424 Third Ave.

Helping to maker Mollie's adjustment to her new position go smoothly are: Twila Nahama and Cheryl Shaffer, substitutes; Lisa Kelly and Glenn Cooper, custodians, and Carol Motto, community outreach.

• The center will offer a post-Fourth of July holiday celebration on Tuesday, July 10, at noon with a lunch, costing $2.50. Cranberry juice, Maryland crab soup, grilled chicken breast, mashed potatoes, salad, green beans, rolls and a mandarin orange dessert are on the menu.

Christ United Methodist Church welcomed new Pastor Richard Keller, to the church at 2833 Florida Ave. He takes over the pulpit vacated by Pastor Sheridan Almond.

Christ United's annual Harvest Festival and outdoor flea market are set for Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the church parking lot. Rent a space with a table for $15 or fill an empty one with your own for $10.

Lansdowne United Methodist Church will host a vacation Bible school July 16-20, 5:45-8:30 p.m. at 114 Lavern Ave. The $5 charge includes a nightly meal. Science fun, team building games, Scriptural instruction and songs are planned. Call Virginia Mullins at 410-242-3039.
