Baltimore Highlands: Volunteer fire department hopes to raise $1.2 million for addition

The English Consul Volunteer Fire Department announced a 5-year drive to raise $1.2 million for constructing a much-needed addition to the existing station at 2827 Michigan Ave.

This group has protected the communities of Rosemont, Baltimore Highlands and English Consul for the past 67 years.

Frank March, the fire department's chief, and Donald "Ducky" Condon, the department's president, said they hope residents will continue offering their full support by donating whatever they can afford in this troubled economy.

For information, call the department at 410-887-0972.

New members are always desired. Training and equipment will be provided for those with the enthusiasm, courage, dedication and willingness to learn new skills. Those interested are encouraged to stop by the station any Tuesday evening.

• On Friday, June 1, the department will host a shrimp dinner, followed by bingo games, for a cost of $20. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Free transportation is available if calls are placed in advance, 410-636-5010.

Christ United Methodist Church, 2832 Florida Ave., will offer an outdoor movie for community residents Friday, June 1.

Popcorn and ice cream will be served at 7:30 p.m. with the film beginning at dusk. Bring a chair, along with a friend, to this free event.

August J. Raveio American Legion Post 195 will host the large flea market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at 2603 Virginia Ave.

Indoor tables rent for $15 or $10 for those outside. Refreshments will be sold and the kitchen will remain open for orders.
