Baltimore Highlands: Shrimp the big attraction for English Consul volunteers' feast

The English Consul Volunteer Fire Department, 2827 Michigan Ave., hosts the annual shrimp feast from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday, May 12, costing $35 per person. A DJ will provide music.

In addition to steamed shrimp, shrimp soup and shrimp creole, there will be vegetable trays, beer and a limited open bar planned. Chef Otis Hoffman guarantees that guests will not be disappointed.

American Legion August Raveio Post 195, 2603 Virginia Ave., hosts a Mother's Day dinner, 3-6 p.m., Sunday, May 13, for a $10 charge. Reservations appreciated but walk-ins welcomed. Choose either baked tilapia or chicken breast, vegetables, rolls, tossed salad, assorted desserts, coffee or tea, plus a cash bar. Take a chance on winning a gift basket for mom.

The Lansdowne-Baltimore Highlands Senior Center will celebrate Mother's Day Monday, May 14, at 424 Third Ave. Beginning at noon, a lunch of tomato soup, chunky chicken salad, coleslaw, croissant, mandarin oranges and fudge brownies will be served for a $7 fee. Don Ingram's music will be featured.

Christ United Methodist Church, 2833 Florida Ave., will prepare the first spaghetti dinner from 4 to 7 p.m., Saturday, May 19, for $7. Salad and desert are included in the all-you-can-eat meal.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, a free summertime community fair will be held at Hillcrest Park for the ninth consecutive year.

There will be plenty of fun activities for our younger residents, according to fair organizer Joan Mitchell.

She said the attractions during the afternoon event include a clown helping sculpt balloons, a pirate show, the Hurricane Poms' performance and a smoke house for practicing fire safety.

A live show will be performed at the Lansdowne Library and Baltimore Zoo animals will be stationed at the senior center.
