Baltimore Highlands: Legion Post 195's annual bull and oyster roast set for Sunday

August J. Raveio American Legion Post 195, 2603 Virginia Ave., has planned a variety of activities for the spring months.

• A dinner on Thursday, April 12, 4-8 p.m., features liver with onions, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, rolls and dessert, for $9. All proceeds benefit youth programs.

• The annual bull and oyster roast Sunday, April 15, 1-6 p.m., features the Monaldi Brothers Band entertaining. Enjoy the band as well as pit ham/beef, oyster stew, oysters on the half shell, sausage, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cheese, rolls, cake, coffee, beer and a limited open bar for $35.

• On Saturday, April 28, the Junior Girls host a 1970s dance from 7 p.m. to midnight with a DJ handling the music. The $15 ticket includes a menu of fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, corn, rolls and assorted desserts.

• Make family reservations for the legion's Mother's Day dinner by May 7. The meal, served Sunday, May 13, costs $10 per person. Baked tilapia or chicken breast, tossed salad, vegetables, rolls, a variety of desserts, coffee, tea and a cash bar. Take a chance and win a gift basket for mom.

The Lansdowne-Riverview-Baltimore Highlands Recreation Council will open the boys baseball and girls softball season April 28 with a parade starting at Riverview Elementary School, on Kessler Road, at 9 a.m., and ending at Lansdowne High School on Hollins Ferry Road. Elected officials, political candidates, military personnel, American Legion members, police, community leaders, a pom pom squad, fire trucks and antique cars will participate.
