Column: Fun for the family at PTA's spring show Saturday

The Lansdowne Middle School PTA presents a Spring Extravaganza from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at 2400 Lansdowne Road.

Bring the family. There will be something for everyone to enjoy — crafters, Baltimore County safety trailer, Lansdowne Volunteer Fire Department display, delicious food, face painting and an antique car show.

August Raveio American Legion Post 195, at 2603 Virginia Ave., hosts its annual bull and oyster roast 1-6 p.m. Sunday, April 14. Clyde Allen and Boss Company will provide music. The $38 tickets pay for pork barbecue, fried fish and scallops, sausage in sauce, macaroni and cheese, baked chicken, cheese cubes, potato salad, coleslaw and vegetable dip.

The Baltimore Highlands/Lansdowne/Riverview Recreation Council will signal the start of the baseball/softball season Saturday, April 20, with a parade at 9 a.m. Participants will set off from the gathering spot on Annapolis Road and march to Baltimore Highlands Elementary School.

Among those expected to be on hand are the area's elected officials, police and fire departments, military personnel, American Legion members, local churches, Girl Scouts and many others.

English Consul Volunteer Fire Department will sell pit beef while the boys and girls teams sell hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas. Games will be played between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Lansdowne/Baltimore Highlands Senior Center, 424 Third Ave., plans an Elvis tribute from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25. The entertainment features Richard Blane. Lunch consists of stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, sauerkraut, cranberry sauce, carrots, rolls, and cake for $2.50.

• A Lantern Queen riverboat trip is set for Thursday, July 25. At 10:30 a.m., a bus will pick passengers up at the center for a two-hour cruise in Havre de Grace, returning at 3:30 p.m. The $50 price covers ham and turkey wraps, potato salad, coleslaw, cookies and brownies.
