Wrestling: Joppatowne Duals highlight action

A dual meet tournament at Joppatowne highlighted the weekend of high school wrestling. In addition to the host Mariners, other county teams participating were Patterson Mill, Havre de Grace and Edgewood.

Patterson Mill's 4-3 record and fourth-place finish was best among the locals. Havre de Grace finished at 2-5, while both Edgewood and Joppatowne were 0-6.

Sparrows Point won the event with a 7-0 mark and Southern-Anne Arundel was second at 6-1. New Town was 5-2, as was Atholton. Towson went 4-3 and Loch Raven was 2-5.

Patterson Mill's wins came over Loch Raven, 48-27; Joppatowne, 78-0; Towson, 54-18; and Atholton, 37-36. The losses were to Southern-AA, 46-27; Sparrows Point, 45-26; and New Town, 39-30.

Patterson Mill's top wrestlers were Jake Nikkila, 7-0 at 126 pounds, and Corey Myers, 6-0 at 195 and 0-1 at 220.

Havre de Grace posted wins over Edgewood, 48-36, and Joppatowne, 48-31. The Warriors losses were to Sparrows Point, 74-6; Atholton, 54-24; New Town, 60-15; Loch Raven, 57-15; and Towson, 60-24.

Justin Wolbert led the Warriors top finishes, going 4-2 at 195. Ryley Armstrong, 106; Josh Nuce, 126; and Jesse Vancheri, 285, each went 4-3.

Edgewood's losses came against New Town, 53-27; Atholton, 54-24; Havre de Grace, 48-36; Sparrows Point, 69-9; Southern-AA, 66-17; and Towson, 72-12.

Langston Gash went 3-1 at 113 to pace the Rams, while Noel Spencer went 4-2, all wins by pin, at 120. Sam Cantler was 3-2 at 195.

Joppatowne's losses were to Loch Raven, 57-14; Southern-AA, 72-10; Patterson Mill, 78-0; Towson, 69-12; Atholton, 54-21; and Havre de Grace, 48-31.

Cobras lose two in tri-meet

Harford Tech traveled out to Carroll County Saturday for a tri-meet with Southern Garrett and host Winters Mill. The Cobras lost both matches, 57-24 to Winters Mill and 46-36 to Southern Garrett.

Four Tech wrestlers posted wins in both matches. Tyler Granese won a forfeit and a pin at 120, while Bret Blevins, 126; Tyler Butler, 138; and Dillon Brush, 182/195, all won with two pins each.

Tim Torre, 152, and Nate Cook, 170, also won bouts for Tech in the Southern Garrett meet.

Tigers drop Mustangs

C. Milton Wright dropped a dual meet with visiting Rising Sun Friday night, losing 55-18. The Mustangs were limited to four wins by the Tigers.

Mike Ritz posted the Mustangs only win by pin, winning in 2:34 at 106. Doug Their won a 4-2 decision at 170 and Donte Smith was a 21-14 winner at 195. The other CMW win came by forfeit at 220. Ty Rochester accepted the win.
