Sports rebounds after Sandy as new schedule starts Thursday

The remnants of Hurricane Sandy closed Harford County Public Schools for three days, throwing the sports schedule out of whack.

That is until earlier today, when Ken Zorbach, Harford County Supervisor of Athletics and Physical Education, and county and non-county athletic directors, ironed out a new schedule, beginning Thursday. Highlighting the changes, all varsity football games originally scheduled for Friday, will be played Saturday evening.

The Harford County Public Schools boys volleyball tournament will be played Thursday at C. Milton Wright starting at 3 p.m

The UCBAC girls volleyball championship, pitting North Harford against Bel Air, will be played at Patterson Mill at 7 p.m.

In the state playoffs, six field hockey teams will play Thursday in regional semifinal action. In Class 3A North, Bel Air will visit Hereford at 4 p.m., while North Harford will visit C. Milton Wright at 6 p.m.

Two 1A North games will be played in Havre de Grace. Fallston will meet Joppatowne at 5 p.m, with Patterson Mill playing North East at 6:45 p.m.

Seven teams are alive for boys soccer quarterfinals. In 1A North play, Havre de Grace will play Overlea at a site and time TDB. In 2A East, Fallston will meet Patterson Mill at Bel Air. Game time is 5 p.m. Also, Rising Sun will play at Harford Tech in 2A East at 3:30 p.m.

In 3A North, CMW will play Towson at Franklin. Game time is 5:30 p.m. North Harford will host Patapsco at 5 p.m., while Aberdeen will play at Digital Harbor at a time still not determined.

Eight girls soccer teams remain in quarterfinal play. In 1A North, Havre de Grace will play Western Tech at Landsdowne at 3 p.m. In 2A East, Edgewood will host Rising Sun at 3 p.m. and Fallston will play Patterson Mill at Bel Air at 7 p.m.

In 3A North, North Harford will play Eastern Tech at CCBC-Essex at 6:45 p.m. Aberdeen will play at CMW at 3:30 p.m. Bel Air will host Digital Harbor, also at 3:30 p.m.

Winners of Thursday games need to be ready to play Friday, with higher seeds to determine time and location.

Saturday's football schedule will have two games played at 6 p.m. and three at 7 p.m.

Fallston will visit Aberdeen and Overlea will visit Havre de Grace at 6 p.m., while Bel Air visits CMW; Harford Tech hosts Perryville; and Joppatowne visits North Harford, all at 7 p.m.

Also, John Carroll will play at Archbishop Curley at 7 p.m.
