Mount sophomore Schott collects first collegiate track victory

Megan Schott of Pylesville raced to her first collegiate victory Saturday in an indoor track meet in Lewisburg, Pa.

The Mount St. Mary's sophomore won the 3,000-meter run in the five-team meet at Bucknell University. She completed 15 laps of the 200-meter track in 10:44.12 to win by a 3-second margin.

It was the first win in college competition for Schott, who was a state champion at North Harford in the 3,200-meter run in May 2011.

In the same meet, Chris Swisko of Aberdeen, a Mount St. Mary's senior and Calvert Hall grad, finished second in the men's mile in 4:17.74. He trailed teammate Tom Gruschow by less than a second at the finish. Swisko's time qualified him for the IC4A championship meet in March.

Elsewhere, Amanda Deller of Aberdeen placed fifth in both the shot put and weight throw in the Penn State Indoor Relays Jan. 5. The UMBC senior threw 45 feet, 1/4 inch in the shot put and 51-4 1/4 in the weight throw.
