Man arrested in connection with Havre de Grace bank robbery Monday

A Havre de Grace area man was arrested shortly after a downtown bank was robbed Monday morning, police say.

Paul Anthony Logan, 43, of the 600 block of Alliance Street in Havre de Grace, was arrested at 11 a.m. in connection with the robbery of Harford Bank, in the 900 block of Revolution Street, Havre de Grace police spokeswoman Julie Morgan said Tuesday morning.

Police had said Monday afternoon that no weapon was involved and they had identified a suspect, but they never confirmed an arrest had been made until Tuesday morning.

Morgan said Tuesday the robber gave an indication he was armed.

"Apparently he handed a note to the teller threatening he had a gun and saying 'Give me $1,000,'" she said.

Logan is charged with armed robbery and theft between $1,000 and $10,000.

He was being held at the Harford County Detention Center with bail set at $100,000, according to state online court records.

Eva Cockerham, under the supervision of Assistant Public Defender Marcus Jenkins, appeared on behalf of Logan at his bail review hearing in Harford County District Court Tuesday.

"He indicated to me that he was not actually armed," Cockerham said.

She said Logan is separated, has three children, including twin 7-year-old boys. She said he has lived in Havre de Grace 11 years.

Cockerham explained Logan is laid of from his job as a construction superintendent. largely because the company builds schools and business is slow. She said the work situation has put Logan in financial difficulty, with his home nearing foreclosure and all his bills behind payment schedule.

Cockerham said Logan has been arrested once in his life and never convicted of a crime. She asked that his bail be reduced to $10,000 or $15,000.

Assistant State's Attorney Jennifer Bober asked bail at least remain as set based on the nature of the charges.

District Court Judge Mimi Cooper ordered bail remain as set at $100,000.
