An SUV was set on fire and a mailbox was blown up, both in the Perryman area Sunday, according to fire investigators.
Around 6:30 p.m., a Yukon Denali XL was found completely consumed by flames in a field behind an industrial park in the 1400 block of Perryman Road in Perryman, according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.
It was unclear what year the vehicle was made or who owned it. The fire caused an estimated $13,000 in damages, the fire marshal's office reported.
It took five firefighters from Aberdeen Fire Department 10 minutes to put out the blaze, which fire officials said was started inside the vehicle by some kind of incendiary device. The fire was reported by a passerby.
In a separate incident, a bomb was found in a custom made mailbox around 7:52 p.m. Sunday in the 2100 block of Golf Drive in Perryman.
Fire officials conducted a "post-blast" investigation, according to a press release from the fire marshal's office.
Four firefighters from Aberdeen Fire Department responded.
