Body found in the Susquehanna River off Havre de Grace is identified

The woman whose body was found in the Susquehanna River in Havre de Grace Friday morning was identified Monday as Marie Rocco, 47, with addresses in both Havre de Grace and Vail, Colo.

Rocco's body was discovered in the water off Hutchins Park by Havre de Grace Police at about 8:40 a.m.

No further information about the cause of death was available, Ofc. Jeff Gilpin said in an e-mail Monday.

"As in any death by unknown circumstances, we are treating this as a homicide until, or unless, evidence dictates otherwise," Gilpin said. "It is way too early in the investigation to speculate on the circumstances of this woman's death. I can say that through conversation with our detectives, there is no immediate evidence, or anything that immediately stood out that would suggest foul play."

"We really have no evidence that has given us any solid direction on what happened," he said.

Police did not release any information on the incident Friday.

At that time, Havre de Grace Police, which had three vehicles on the scene, closed off the park with yellow police tape, but left open the parking lot. A police SUV was on the sidewalk closer to the river near where people board the Lantern Queen. Two other police cars were in the parking lot. No other police or emergency vehicles were visible at the scene.
