Early morning house fire in Street displaces family

A house fire broke out early Monday morning in the 2000 block of Mount Horeb Road in Street, displacing the occupants.

According to the Harford County Fire and EMS official Facebook page, no injuries have been reported and multiple companies from Harford, Baltimore and York counties responded to the scene.

A notice of investigation from the State Fire Marshal's Office reports the time of the incident was 3:19 a.m. and the fire originated in the basement utility room.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire caused $250,000 worth of damage to the one-story home, the notice stated, and $25,000 worth of damage to contents.

Early Monday morning, Mount Horeb Road between Joshua Court and Madonna Road remained closed, according to the Facebook page of the Fire & EMS Association.

Firefighters from Jarrettsville, Whiteford, Fallston, Norrisville, Bel Air, Delta-Cardiff, Fawn Grove and Jacksonville volunteer fire companies responded to the fire and took 50 firefighters 90 minutes to control.

John Spahn, who lives across the street on Mount Horeb Road, called The Aegis Monday and said sirens woke him up around 3 a.m. Around 9 a.m., the house was still "smoldering a bit," Spahn said.

"The blaze out of the windows was horrific," he said. The most important thing, he continued, was he heard the family was OK and the fire didn't seem to spread to any other houses.

Spahn added that he could see straight through the house from one end of the house to the other, as a result of the fire.

Early Monday morning, Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Fire and EMS Association, said the fire went two alarms.

State fire marshals were investigating at the scene around 9:30 a.m. Monday. One confirmed that the occupants of the house made it out safely.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
