Letter: Laughter at 'No Walmart' coverage

When I see all the newspaper coverage about the "No Walmart" on 924, I just laugh. They ought to live across from the Boulevard Shopping Center that was built smack on Route 924 with no setback. No one ever told us that the Boulevard was coming or asked us if we wanted one. I live in the original "Constant Friendship" on the corner of Porter Drive and Brooks Avenue, both are dead end streets.

Everyday I have cars turning around in front of my house or in my driveway. The reason they do this is because the developers of the Boulevard have only right turn lanes coming out onto 924. Did they think everyone who goes to the Boulevard is from Bel Air? Well they are not! They come from I-95 or Route 40 shop at the Boulevard and then come into our little development to turn around and make a right hand turn to go back to I-95 or Route 40.

I have dealt with the Harford County government and the State Highway Administration with no action taken. Six months ago, they said they would ask the developer of the Boulevard to put signs to direct people going to I-95 and Route 40. The signs were never erected. The Boulevard has two streets each having traffic lights which people could use to access Route 924 in a safe manner. There are no signs to direct people to these streets which are not visible from the Boulevard parking area.

Now I read in The Aegis that 400 apartments and townhouses are coming in behind the Boulevard. The Boulevard is also going to build more restaurants and stores in the near future.

So I think unless you live in "Fallston" (the area that is always zoned agricultural) you and I will have no say in anything Harford County does.
