The new principal at John Carroll School in Bel Air says she is "so excited" to be a part of school life.
"I'm just thrilled to be a part and honored to be a part of this community," Madelyn Ball said.
She was appointed to take the place of former principal Paul Barker, who took a position as president at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney. Baker had been at the private Catholic high school since 2001.
Ball spent 20 years at Our Lady of Good Counsel, as part of the faculty for eight years, as assistant principal for students for three years and as assistant principal for staff development for the last nine.
After that she headed to The Catholic High School of Baltimore as the principal for a year, where, according to a release, she promoted science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM, education, special education programs and staff development.
In addition to a lengthy teaching career, Ball's background includes a Spanish degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, as well as a master's in education from American University. She also spent seven years with Montgomery County Public Schools.
Her career also includes teaching at Trinity College, Catholic University, Frederick Community College and a Technology for Instruction and Management course at College of Notre Dame of Maryland since 2005.
Ball said she "always enjoyed" working in large, co-ed Catholic high schools and was "excited" to be joining John Carroll.
"It feels like coming home to me," Ball, who lives inTowson, said.
Even now, Ball emphasized, the school is "so alive" with children enrolled in summer camps and she's meeting future students.
"I'm just thrilled to be a part and honored to be a part of this community," she added.
