Baseball: IronBirds start homestand with loss

Playing at home for the first time in a week, the Aberdeen IronBirds dropped their Wednesday night game to the Auburn Doubledays, 9-5

The loss dropped Aberdeen to 9-14 on the season.

Aberdeen went ahead, 4-2, with a three-run rally in the sixth, but the Doubledays came back with a six-run outburst in the top of the seventh to go up for good. Aberdeen scored its final run in the bottom of the seventh, while the visitors came through with one last run in the eighth.

IronBirds left fielder Anthony Vega jumped all over the Doubleday pitcher's first offering of the sixth, driving the ball into the home bullpen for his second home run of the season. Vega finished 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Aberdeen's Jerome Pena led the IronBirds in hits, going 3-for-5 with three singles and one RBI.

Aberdeen starter Juan Guzman put together a solid outing, going five innings, holding Auburn to a pair of earned runs on five hits, striking out five and walking two.
