IronBirds top Staten Island, 2-1, stop eight-game skid

With a 2-1, Thursday-night victory over the visiting Staten Island Yankees, the Aberdeen IronBirds managed to snap their longest losing streak of the season so far.

With the win, Aberdeen's first after losing eight straight, Put the IronBirds at 26-44 for the season.

Sam Kimmel ripped a solo home run in the victory, while teammate Joel Hutter went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Anthony Vega scored one run for Aberdeen and Cameron Edman went 2-for-4 with a double.

Aberdeen starter Jorge Rivera (1-2) got the win, going five innings in which he struck out eight, walked three and held the Yankees scoreless on two hits.

Tommy Winegardner allowed one earned run on one hit, struck out three and surrendered one walk over 1-1/3 innings to earn his ninth save of the year.
