IronBirds cough up five-run lead in 8-7 loss to Lowell

In their Thursday night showdown with the visiting Lowell Spinners, the Aberdeen IronBirds squandered a five-run lead on their way to an 8-7 defeat at Ripken Stadium.

Leading the guests 7-2 after five innings, the IronBirds surrendered three runs in the sixth and another three in the seventh and weren't able to score any more themselves.

Pacing the Aberdeen offense were Cameron Edman and Manuel Hernandez, who had identical stat lines, with each going 1-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Joel Hutter led Aberdeen in hits, going 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI, while teammate Will Howard was 1-for-5 with two RBIs. Sam Kimmel went 1-for-4 and had a team-best two runs in the loss, while Anthony Vega and Creede Simpson both scored once.

Taking the loss was Aberdeen reliever Jaime Esquivel, who allowed three earned runs on three hits, struck out four and walked two over 2-1/3 innings of work.

With the loss, Aberdeen fell to 25-38 on the season. The IronBirds head to Hudson Valley Friday to start a three-game series with the Renegades, before returning home Monday to face the Brooklyn Cyclones.
