HCC men stay in mix for home basketball playoff game with win

The Harford men's basketball team (7-13, 5-6 MD JUCO) earned a hard-fought road conference win at CCBC Catonsville (8-10, 6-6 MD JUCO) on Tuesday, 80-69.

The victory kept the Fighting Owls in the mix for a home playoff game on Feb. 12. The top eight seeds in the conference will host the first round of the 2013 MD JUCO Tournament. Harford is in a tie for ninth place with a 5-6 conference mark.

Four Fighting Owls recorded double figures, led by Dimitrious Jelen-Joy and Colby Giacubeno. Jelen-Joy scored 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first half, while Giacubeno tallied 13 of his 16 markers in the second half. Jeff Joynes had 15 points and Malachi Seney chipped in with 10.

The Fighting Owls led by 10 at the half and opened the second half on a 13-5 run to take their biggest lead of the game, 48-30. Harford travels to Frederick on Saturday.
