Girls volleyball: Fallston, Perryville win region titles

The Fallston girls volleyball team is going back to College Park to defend its Class 2A state title. The Cougars earned that right Saturday afternoon with a straight set win over visiting North Caroline in the Class 2A East Region championship game. Perryville also won a Class 1A state championship Friday evening.

Fallston won its state championship by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-18.

Fallston meets Calvert in a state semifinal Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum.

Senior Captain Rachael Holehouse, with 14 kills and five aces, led Fallston's attack. Fellow senior captain Abby Claborn had 15 assists and sophomore Anna Holehouse added 20 digs

PERRYVILLE beats Snow Hill

The Perryville girls volleyball team won the Class 1A East Region championship Friday evening, sending the Panthers on to next week's state semifinals.

The Panthers swept visiting Snow Hill, 3-0, to claim their fifth region crown and their first since 2003. The Panthers play Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the 1A state semifinals at the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum. The opponent will be the South champion - Surrattsville or Southside Academy, the South champion.

Perryville's scores against Snow Hill were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18.

Samantha Kreiner led the Panthers with 13 service points, eight kills, nine digs and nine perfect passes.

Nori Elliott added 16 service points, two aces, three kills, one dig, 11 assists and one perfect pass, while Ange Thompson contributed nine service points, four kills, one block, nine assists and one perfect pass.

April Polyanski also chipped in with seven service points, five kills, one block, one dig and five perfect passes. Mycalah Bryant added nine service points, one ace, one kill and one block.
