CMW girls complete Mustangs' sweep of county swim championship

The C. Milton Wright girls swim squad stormed to an overall victory on Wednesday night at Magnolia Middle School, outscoring the nearest opponent by 125 points to wrap up a Mustangs' sweep of the Harford County Championships.

In Wednesday night's girls meet, the CMW team posted 394.5 points, while North Harford finished a distant second with 269.5. Rounding out the podium was the Patterson Mill girls team with 256 tallies. The rest of the teams finished in this order: Harford Tech, 214; Bel Air, 207; Fallston, 203; Havre de Grace, 180; Edgewood, 138; Aberdeen, 114; Joppatowne, 54.

With the combined scores from the Wednesday meet and Tuesday's boys event, which CMW also won comfortably, the Mustangs finished at the top overall with 710 points. Fallston took the second spot with 477, and Patterson Mill took third with 444. Rounding out the rest of the field were, Bel Air, 443; North Harford, 411.5; Harford Tech, 396; Havre de Grace, 342; Edgewood, 290; Aberdeen, 288; Joppatowne, 195.

Leading the way for the Mustangs on Wednesday, winning two individual titles apiece, were Lauren O'Mara and Megan Cowan. O'Mara raced to first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle. Cowan topped the field in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke.

CMW's Erika Slotnick took the Harford crown in the 100-yard freestyle.

The Mustangs' last individual win of the night came from Julia O'Mara, who took first in the 100-yard breaststroke.

CMW swept the relay events, taking all three of the featured races. Cowan, Slotnick, Lauren O'Mara and Erika Abshire teamed up to take a title in the 200-yard medley relay. The 200-yard relay event was won by the team of Abshire, Slotnick, Ida Erdhardt and Julia O'Mara. In the last even of the two-day meet, Lauren O'Mara, Julia O'Mara, Cowan and Maggie Gallagher combined to top all comers in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Fallston's Madison Brown earned a county title in the 200-yard freestyle, beating second-place finisher Slotnick by more than six seconds.

Bel Air took first in the 50-yard freestyle, with Macey Nitchie capturing the top spot with a 0.08-second win over Julia O'Mara.
