Wednesday was a busy day on the field hockey circuit as UCBAC division play opened for most. The North Harford Hawks opened in impressive fashion, shutting out the visiting Rising Sun Tigers, 6-0, in Chesapeake play.
Joppatowne, C. Milton Wright and Fallston also picked up wins over Tech, Mercy and Bel Air, respectively, while Patterson Mill tied and Aberdeen and Havre de Grace both lost.
Becca Rinaca led the Hawks with a pair of goals, while single goals were scored by Kara Parks, Haley Ensor, Sarah Warczynski and Maddy Dolinar. Dolinar, Parks, Rachel Baca and Warczynski each had assists.
North Harford played three goalies, none of whom made a save. The Hawks, who led 5-0 at half, are 1-0 in Chesapeake play and 2-1 overall.
Mariners stun Cobras
Joppatowne and host Harford Tech hooked up in the lone night contest, with Joppatowne slipping in a quick goal and making it stand for a 1-0 Susquehanna win.
The game's lone goal was scored by Deja Turner in the first 45 seconds of play. Katelyn Fabi assisted.
Joppatowne (1-0, 4-1) goalie April Kinyua had 14 saves, while Tech (0-2, 2-3) keepers Kenady Schwinn and Hannah Snyder combined for eight saves in the goal.
Cougars beat Bobcats
Fallston (1-0, 3-2) opened its Chesapeake schedule at Bel Air (0-1, 3-2), where the Cougars earned the win, 4-1. The Cougars led 3-1 at the half.
Fallston's Jenna Caldwell opened the scoring with 24 minutes left in the first half. Teammate Dani McDiarmid tallied two minutes later for a 2-0 lead, but Bel Air cut the lead in half on Taylor Burrier's goal with 15:55 remaining in the half. The goal was assisted by Madison Healey.
Fallston, however, got a second goal in the half from Caldwell to take the 3-1 lead into half. Cougar Alicia King then closed out the scoring midway through the second half.
Bel Air goalie Meghan Mingioni had 12 saves in the loss.
Huskies, Eagles tie
Patterson Mill and host Bo Manor battled through regulation, overtime and strokes, but ended the day in a 3-3 Chesapeake tie.
Linnea Gonzales scored the Huskies regulation time goal and goalie Maddie Hedrick had six saves.
Score of strokes was 2-2, with Hedrick making three stroke saves. The Huskies are 0-0-1 in league and 1-2-1 overall.
Mustangs beat Mercy
C. Milton Wright posted a 9-0 non-league victory over visiting Mercy Wednesday, pushing their overall record to 4-1. Sophomore Haley Matthai led the Mustangs with four goals, followed by sophomore Emily Brandt's three goals. Madie Adams closed the scoring with two goals.
Emily Jachelski (two), Maggie Gallagher (two), Kendall Barry, Jenny Eckert, Sabrina Rhodes and Matthai each had assists.
Panthers blank Warriors
Perryville and Havre de Grace were head-to-head in a Susquehanna contest and Perryville got the best of it, winning 7-0.
Brooke Hornberger led the Panthers (2-0 league, 2-2 overall) with three goals, while Hannah Wein added two goals and one assist. Carrie Brighthaupt and Taylor Poore also scored goals, while Morgan Peschek had two assists. Hannah Seiber and Laura Ricketts were also credited with assists.
Perryville goalie Britany Gibson had an easy day, making no saves. Havre de Grace keeper Joy Mullins finished with 10 saves. Havre de Grace is winless at 0-1 in league and 0-4 overall.
Eagles lose to Elks
Aberdeen also dropped its opening Susquehanna game, falling 5-1 to visiting Elkton.
Aberdeen's goal was scored by Megan Lutrey with and assist by Ana Neuman.
The Eagles are 0-1 in league and 1-3 overall.
