Aberdeen Middle student charged with setting off fire alarm at school

A student was arrested and charged in connection with a false fire alarm at Aberdeen Middle School Tuesday afternoon, the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said.

The Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Department responded to an alarm at the school in the 100 block of Mount Royal Avenue at 1:50 p.m., according to a notice of investigation from the Fire Marshal's Office.

Responding firefighters found an automatic alarm had activated, but not the school's sprinkler system. The Aberdeen Police Department also responded.

An investigation concluded the fire alarm had been intentionally pulled by a male juvenile student, according to the Fire Marshal's Office.

The student, who was not identified, was arrested and referred to the Department of Juvenile Services and later released to the custody of his parents, the Fire Marshal's Office said.
