Beat the summer heat at Conowingo Pool

Our Horton Reunion was held recently at the home of Lisa and David Lane with many attending for lots of good food, fellowship and fun. Those attending came from all over including, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina and Louisiana. It's just great when family gets together to share the new and old times with one another.

The Conowingo Pool is open every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m through Sept. 2. A good way to enjoy the summer and beat the heat! The pool is at 4948 Conowingo in Darlington on Route 1 right before the Conowingo Dam.

The Harford Artists Gallery presents the "The Lazy Days of Summer" through Sept. 1. Gallery hours are Thursdays and Fridays, 1 to 6 p.m., Saturdays noon to 6 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 4 p.m,. in the little cottage at Rockfield Manor, 503 Churchville Road in Bel Air.

Vacation Bible School at Franklin Baptist Church is July 29 through Aug. 2, Monday through Friday from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is "Our Mighty God." Transportation is available by calling 410-457-4121. The church is on 2106 Franklin Church Road in Darlington. From K-4 to 12th grade. There is something for every student. Come join us for a week and fun and learning of "Our Mighty God."

Mason-Dixon Community Services, 708 Highland Road in Street, is offering free school supplies to income eligible families in the Forest Hill, Jarrettsville, North Harford, Dublin and Darlington school districts. Please call 420-452-9025 for requirements and shopping times.

Do you know someone who has been actively involved in contributing to the Darlington community? Someone who has unselfishly volunteered time and talents to helping others? If you do, then the Darlington Apple Festival Committee wants to hear from you. The committee is accepting nominations for the Apple of Our Eve Award for the 2013 festival. Please send your nomination, along with some biographical information and the reasons why your nominee deserves this honor. Before sending your request please check with your nominee to see if that person would be willing to accept the award and will be in town on Saturday, Oct. 5.
