Trinity Lutheran School moves forward with Joppa building expansion

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Joppa is moving forward with plans to expand its school building, which it first announced last year.

The church and school are along Route 7 (Philadelphia Road), just east of Route 152 (Mountain Road).

A 20,140 square-foot addition is planned for the school's gymnasium that will also include ancillary classrooms, Jeff Deegan of Wilson Deegan & Associates, Inc., told the Harford County Development Advisory Committee Wednesday.

"All uses [proposed for the addition] currently exist in the church," Deegan said. "They are being shared between the educational portion of the facility and the church."

Deegan said all utilities are on-site, and the addition would be attached to the existing building.

The addition will also include 344 new parking spaces.

The expansion is part of continued growth at Trinity, as Pastor John Austin told The Aegis in September 2010.

The school marked its 50th anniversary last year and now has more than 400 students, while the congregation built a new, 1,100-seat worship space in 2008.
