St. Mary's Episcopal Church will host its 9th Annual Peach Festival on Aug. 3 on the church grounds at 1 St. Mary's Church Road in Abingdon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
St. Mary's boasts a huge bake table, including homemade peach preserves, peach and peach berry pies, peach cobblers, peach cake and muffins. The peaches for the day are from Susquehanna Orchard of Delta, Pa., and a large variety of peach-baked items will be available. Come early to purchase the baked goods as they sell out very quickly.
Delicious lunch options include pit beef or pit ham, hot dogs, chips, sodas and peach tea. Broom's Bloom vanilla or peach ice cream topped with fresh sliced peaches is a delectable treat to beat the heat. Bags of fresh peaches are also available for purchase.
Purchase a $5 raffle ticket for their largest raffle to date. A handmade wooden wagon made by a parishioner is filled with gift certificates and products (worth well over $500) donated from local businesses. There will be a variety of raffle items offered throughout the day, a hand felted hat in a gorgeous peach hue, as well as items donated by the 20-plus vendors. The vendors will be set up in the vendor courtyard for you to peruse their wares as you enjoy music and the festival atmosphere.
A wonderful children's game and craft area is available inside the Parish Hall, out of the heat. Kids can "make" peach pie, play knee pong, enjoy a quarter store, have their faces painted, enjoy puppets and much more. The festival is truly an enjoyable experience for family members of any age.
All proceeds from the festival will go to the restoration of the historic stained glass windows in the church. Historic church tours will be offered throughout the festival, given by knowledgeable members of St. Mary's church family.
