Local resident celebrates 95th birthday

Local historian and genealogist Anna Lee Kirkwood Smith celebrates her 95th birthday Sept. 13. A graduate of the State Teachers College at Towson (now Towson University), Smith taught in a one-room schoolhouse for several years before her marriage in 1941. The niece of C. Milton Wright, she aided him in writing his book "Our Harford Heritage" and in 1972 published her own book, "Kirkwoods and their Kin," an extensive genealogy of the Kirkwood family. Smith lives in Jarrettsville on the farm she and her late husband, Gardiner, purchased just after their marriage.
