Baltimore County man accused of beating child in Edgewood

A Baltimore County man was held without bail Monday after he allegedly admitted to beating his girlfriend's 2-year-old son while babysitting in Edgewood.

A woman told police Saturday that her boyfriend, Gabriel Goddard, 29, of the first block of Brubar Court in Gwynn Oak, abused the child, according to the statement of charges.

The woman had left the boy with Goddard at a home in the 1300 block of Harford Square Drive.

She said the boy's body was covered with "welts, marks and bruises consistent with marks that would be left with some type of cord," according to the statement.

Goddard said the boy had ripped out some of Goddard's school assignments while he was left unattended for a few minutes.

He said he got "extremely angry and went overboard and regretted it," and admitted he used a phone charger to hit the boy for about two minutes.

The boy also had possible scratches on the side of his face and was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for evaluation.

Goddard was charged with first- and second-degree assault, second-degree child abuse and reckless endangerment.
