Boys lacrosse: Fallston, Harford Tech, Patterson Mill, Bel Air, Aberdeen, Edgewood win opening playoff tilts

Nine Harford County boys lacrosse teams opened the region playoffs Wednesday with wins, advancing each into today's quarterfinal round of their respective classifications.

Wednesday's winners were Fallston, Harford Tech, Edgewood, North Harford, Patterson Mill, Havre de Grace, C. Milton Wright, Aberdeen and Bel Air.

Top seed Fallston rolled over visiting Elkton, 15-2, Wednesday in 1A-2A East, district VII section first-round action.

Zach Wheeler scored three goals to lead the Cougars, while Marc Badger, Kyle D'Onofrio, Greg Horsham, Brenden Nolan and Jeremy Scranton had two goals apiece. Taylor Brown and Chris Dunnigan also had goals.

Zack Esser and James Glezen each had two assists. D'Onofrio, Robbie Kansler, Nolan and Scranton also had assists.

Fallston goalies Caleb Abney and Mark Wollenweber each had one save.

The Cougars will host North East at 6 p.m. tonight.

Cobras beat Panthers

Harford Tech also won in 1A-2A East, district VII section first-round action, beating visiting Perryville, 16-1.

Tyler Fullem's four goals and three assists led the scoring and Dan Ashburn also scored four goals and added one assist.

Zack Valenti added three goals and four assists and Zac Taylor had two goals. Mike Mentzer, Garrett Selander and Michael Vega also had goals. Selander also had one assist.

Perryville's lone goal was scored by Cody Gerhart, with assist from Dakota Dunman.

Tech played two goalies, with Sean Klein making seven saves and Adam Smith making four.

Perryville goalie Danny Wilson made 11 saves.

Rams beat Digital Harbor

Edgewood, which failed to win a regular season game, earned its first win Wednesday, beating visiting Digital Harbor, 10-8, in 2A-3A North first-round action.

Mike Ryan and Sean Kluchinsky led the Rams with three goals each, while Jake Wilmer netted two goals. Jabriel Gant and Agi Agememnon also tallied goals for the winners.

Hawks beat Patapsco

North Harford beat visiting Patapsco, 18-1, in 2A-3A North play.

Joel Linkous, John Heaps and Max Mullin scored three goals each to lead the Hawks. Andrew Siegel and Brett Hurley scored two goals apiece and single goals were tallied by Brooks Billings, Randy Foster, Austin Ensor, Ryan Fiess and Ryan Warren.

Billings also dished out three assists, while two assists were credited to Linkous, Siegel, Ensor and Andrew Kropkowski. Also assisting were Foster, Colin Keating and Hurley.

Hawks goalies Cameron Brosh and Matt Geodeke made three and one saves, respectively.

North Harford will host Edgewood Friday in quarterfinal action.

Huskies blank Mariners

In a 1A-2A North first round game, Patterson Mill easily defeated visiting Joppatowne, 17-0. The Huskies led 12-0 at the half. The Huskies will host Southern-AA at 6:30 p.m. in Friday's quarterfinal round.

Chase Wedekind laced the nets for a team-best five goals, while Josh Wilson, Mike Gallagher and Tyler Levandoski each scored two goals. Single goal scorers included Nick Fisher, Sam Caretti, Chase Tallon, Tony Roney, Mike Dinatale and Brendan Egan.

Egan added four assists, while single assists were credited to Wedekind, Wilson, Tony Roney, Deonte Alston, Brandon Burris, Brett Soos and Gallagher.

Patterson Mill played two goalies, with Will Urban making five saves and Ryan Fabiano making four.

Warriors beat Tigers

Havre de Grace's oped 1A-2A East play with a 14-5 win over visiting Rising Sun. In the win, Casey Brown led the scoring with four goals and six assists. Justin Gosnell, in limited action while recovering from injury, had three goals. Goalie/attackman Brian Cameron had 11 saves in goal and two goals and an assist while on attack.

Donald Matts took most of the face-offs and had two goals and one assist. The scoring was rounded out by Nick Burley (one goal, one assist), Connor Haffey (one goal), Keenan Villareal (one goal), Brad Davidson (one assist)) and Chris Anderson (one assist)

Havre de Grace will play at Harford Tech Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Mustangs beat Lakers

C. Milton Wright had no trouble in its 2A-3A North opener, beat visiting Lake Clifton, 21-2. Andrew Ward and Alex Kleinberg each scored four goals and Nick Kuzma added seven assists to highlight the win. Alex Meholic scored three goals and Wade Rollins added two. Single goals were scored by Matt Bollinger, Austin Burke, David McGuirk, Ben Boyd, John Amos, Drew Kissner, Christian Cox and Chad Roszko.

Bollinger added three assists, while Meholic, Andy LeBrun, Rollins, Paul Mirabile and Boyd each added an assist.

Mustangs goalie Matt Corn made three saves.

Eagles beat Lansdowne

Aberdeen picked up a 2A-3A North first round win Wednesday, blowing out visiting Lansdowne, 20-1. Aberdeen will play at CMW today in a quarterfinal.

Blaise Curtis led the scoring with six goals and two assists, while Kevin Shumaker added five goals and two assists. Chumani Johnson added three goals, while single goals were scored by Jake Kilmon, Kyle Peters (three assists), Justin Mauzy, Ruchir Patel, (one assist) and Jon Jones, (one assist).

Bobcats cruise over Mervo

Bel Air won big Wednesday, 21-1 over host Mervo in 3A-4A South play. No further details were available. The Bobcats will play at Kenwood in Friday's quarterfinals.

Patriots close with win

John Carroll closed out its regular season with a win Tuesday, beating host St. Peter and Paul, 11-10, in Easton.

The Patriots trailed 7-4 at the half, but rallied for the win. Mike Thompson led the scoring with three goals, while Dominic Mezzanotte and Clarke Grube had two goals and two assists each. Jake Brown had two goals and one assist and Eric Riley added a goal and two assists. Sully Gerety rounded out the scoring with a goal and assist.

John Carroll goalies Alex Gambrell and Jack Miller made four and three saves, respectively.
