With the score of Thursday night's boys basketball game at C. Milton Wright tied at 54, the Mustangs got what appeared to be the game-winning shot when Mychal Stefanides banked in an eight-foot jump shot with 2.7 seconds remaining.
Aberdeen may have been down to its last trick, but it was enough as senior guard Anthony Bennett got the ball on the ensuing inbound and at the buzzer tossed up a shot from behind the half-court line. The ball sailed through the net, and Aberdeen had escaped the CMW gym with a 57-56 victory.
Bennett led the Eagles in scoring with 22 points, while his teammate, Tyril Rozier, was close behind with 19 tallies. Aberdeen's Alex Funcheon scored seven points in the victory.
Stefanides finished the game with 13 points, while teammate Connor Bays had a team-best 17 points.
Will Hazelton had 10 points and led CMW in steals with five, while fellow Mustang Logan Keys posted five points and a team-best three assists. CMW's Chris Kiley had five points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Patterson Mill stomps Fallston
The Patterson Mill Huskies won at home Thursday, pounding the Fallston Cougars, 66-32.
Mike Reed scored a team-best 20 points in the victory. Brothers Malik Bonds and Andrew Bonds finished within one point of each other, as Andrew scored 15 points and Malik scored 14. Tyler Jakubowski had 16 points in the victory and Kevin Dorsey, his teammate, scored 1.
Wyatt Alexander led Fallston with nine points.
Pats win in Hawaii
Playing in the opening round of the Iolani Classic Basketball Tournament in Hawaii on Thursday, the John Carroll Patriots rolled to a 69-26 victory over the Hilo, Hawaii, squad.
Kimbal Mackenzie helped the winning effort with 15 points, two steals and one assist, while fellow Patriot Rodney Elliott had 11 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal.
John Carroll's Jordan Martin had a team-best seven assists, four points, two rebounds and two steals. Michael Tertsea came off the bench for the Patriots, putting up nine points, four blocks, two rebounds and one assist, while teammate Trystan Pratapas had 11 points, nine of which came from beyond the three-point line. Malik Tyne had seven rebounds in the win, while C.J. Keyser came up with six points. The Patriots' Eli Long had four assists and one rebound.
Bel Air defeats Rising Sun
The Bel Air Bobcats walked over visiting Rising Sun Thursday, 71-44.
The game was tied at 13 after the first quarter, but the Bobcats ran out to a 31-24 lead by halftime. Bel Air pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors, 24-8.
Tyler Norcross had a season-best performance in the victory, scoring 28 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Parker Jones, C.J. Simmons and Calvin Fleagle each had 10 points for the Bobcats.
Joppatowne tops Tech
The Joppatowne Mariners won on the road Thursday, dispatching the Harford Tech Cobras, 62-39.
The Mariners got 16 points, three assists and five rebounds from Markell Huggins, while Joppatowne's Gary Blackston had 10 points and eight rebounds. Sir Nicolas Phillips ran up nine points and 12 rebounds in the victory, while Matthew Jones contributed nine points and a team-best nine assists. Matthew Jones had nine points and nine assists for the Mariners and teammate Keith Alexander had eight points.
Leading Harford Tech in the loss was Isaiah Gills, who had 15 points and 20 rebounds. Dennis Pink posted 10 points and six rebounds for the Cobras and teammate George Hargrove had seven rebounds.
Havre de Grace over North East
The Havre de Grace Warriors beat the host-team North East Indians Thursday night, 50-39.
Lavell McCullers led the Warriors with 11 points and six rebounds. Kris Yancey also scored 11. Nick Jones had 10 points and five rebounds in the victory.
