Trailing by 18 at the half, the visiting C. Milton Wright Mustangs rallied to beat the Aberdeen Eagles, 55-49, Wednesday night.
CMW trailed, 33-15, at the intermission. With the victory, the Mustangs improved to 12-6 overall and 6-4 in Chesapeake (upper) Division play.
Aberdeen, which forfeited 11 victories earlier this week because of using an ineligible player for its first 15 games, fell to 3-16 overall and 2-9 against division teams.
CMW's Will Hazelton led all scorers with an 18-point effort. Connor Bays scored 15 points and led CMW in rebounds with five. The Mustangs' Mychal Stefanides scored 10 points and led his team in assists with six and in steals with five.
Darryn Garner was the Eagles top offensive contributor, scoring a team-best 16 points. Eric Briggs had 11 points in the loss, while teammate Alex Funcheon scored eight and Maurice Harris netted seven.
Fallston wins by one
Having not held a single lead during their Tuesday matchup with host-team North Harford, the Fallston Cougars (7-14 overall, 4-7 Chesapeake) finally went ahead, 35-34, with six seconds remaining in regulation when Wyatt Alexander knocked down a foul shot. North Harford got off two shots in the remaining time, one of which was blocked, and the second, a six-foot jumper, rimmed out to seal the Cougars' one-point victory.
With the loss, North Harford fell to 8-12 overall and 3-7 in Chesapeake Division contests.
Alexander finished the game with seven points, as did Kyle Tyree.
North Harford's Madison Varvaris and Brock Hurley had matching stat lines, each scoring 12 points and pulling down seven rebounds.
North Harford led, 13-3, after one quarter, and was up, 19-18, heading into halftime.
Joppatowne unbeaten in division
The Joppatowne Mariners, who sealed up an UCBAC Susquehanna (lower) Division title Friday with a victory over Perryville, came one step closer Tuesday to finishing their campaign with a perfect 14-0 mark against division opponents, scoring a 58-54 road victory over the Bel Air Bobcats (15-6 overall, 10-3 Susquehanna).
The win put Joppatowne at 13-0 in lower division play and 17-2 overall.
The Mariners trailed their hosts, 19-15, after one quarter Tuesday and trailed by one, 35-34, at halftime. Trailing, 43-42, in the waning seconds of the third quarter, Joppatowne took a 46-43 advantage in short order as the Mariners were fouled on a converted three-point shot, then hit the ensuing free throw. The Mariners opened the fourth quarter with a 6-0 run to go up 52-43. The Bobcats cut the lead to 57-54 toward the end of regulation. Joppatowne, however, did not concede another point.
Joppatowne was led by Markell Huggins, who had 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks. Khalil Gore had 14 points, while Matthew Jones posted 12 points, three assists and three steals. Jermaine Head Jr. came through with six points and six assists for the Mariners.
Bel Air's Tyler Norcross had 24 points and 12 rebounds, while teammate J.D. Bruck scored 16.
The Mariners are slated to play in the UCBAC title game against the Chesapeake (upper) Division champ on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 5 p.m. Edgewood and Patterson Mill are the two teams left in the running for the upper-division title. The venue for that contest has not yet been announced.
Edgewood takes Chesapeake win
The Edgewood Rams held off a hard-charging C. Milton Wright squad Tuesday night to take an important Chesapeake Division victory, beating the host Mustangs, 52-49.
With the win, Edgewood improved to 10-1 against Chesapeake opponents and 14-4 overall. CMW fell to 11-7 overall and 5-5 in upper-division contests.
Edgewood's Detrick Matthews scored a team-best 16 points, while Jaleel Gibson netted 12 points in the win. Kevin Ringgold had nine points for Edgewood, while Fortune Okigweh and Lenier Tucker both scored six.
Connor Bays led CMW in scoring with 19 points and rebounds with eight boards. Mychal Stefanides had 12 points, three steals and a team-best three assists in the loss, while Will Hazelton had six points and three steals. The Mustangs' Corey Bays scored six points and Chris Kiley had four.
HdG over Rising Sun
The Havre de Grace boys (10-8 overall, 8-3 Susquehanna) took a road victory Tuesday, knocking off Rising Sun, 71-61.
Lavell McCullers led the Warrior offense, notching 18 points and six rebounds. Tyriel Calhoun had 17 points in the victory, while Davonte Pittman put up 12 points and nine rebounds.
