Two from Harford charged with helping run BGF gang in jails

Two people from Harford County were among the 19 indicted in connection with an alleged widespread plan to operate the Black Guerrilla Family inside correctional facilities.

Derrick Jones, 41, of Aberdeen, and Michelle Ricks, 43, of Edgewood, were among the 19 additional indictments in U.S. District Court that were announced Thursday.

The two are former or current correctional officers withing the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. They are charged with conspiring to operate the Black Guerrilla Family (BGF) gang inside correctional facilities as well as with conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute drugs.

To date, 44 people have been charged in the case, including 27 correctional officers.

The indictments announced Thursday are the result of investigation since the previous arrests.
