No residents injured in Saturday morning fire in Edgewood

No residents were injured during an apartment fire Saturday morning in Edgewood.

An automatic alarm sounded around 10:24 a.m. with reports of smoke coming from the 1200 block of Valley Leaf Court, according to fire officials.

It took fire crews less than 20 minutes to control the fire, Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association spokesman Rich Gardiner said.

One firefighter from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore for a minor, non-life-threatening burn injury, according to Gardiner.

Deputy fire marshals believe the fire started in the basement family room of the two-story townhouse and estimate the fire caused about $100,000 in structural damage as well as $20,000 worth of damage to its contents.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Emergency radio dispatch calls initially said there was an "apartment fire" and that first responders on the scene reported smoke coming from the basement.
